Filming in India

In June I travelled to Nepal and India in order to film a documentary for my final project for my MA in International Journalism.  You will already have seen the montage of shots from Nepal and the trailer for the final documentary.  Now you can see a montage of other shots from my time in India.

It was a fascinating trip to the north of India – Dharamsala, which really appears to be a ‘mini Tibet’ – a unique area where a group of people have set up their own base in another country in order to retain it’s language and culture.

Enjoy!

Filming in Nepal

In June I travelled to Nepal and India in order to film a documentary for my final project for my MA in International Journalism.  The way the story went it was primarily shot in India but as I had taken some nice footage it seemed a waste to just leave it hidden in final cut pro!  So I have put together a short montage video with some of the nicest shots from this part of the trip.  Enjoy!

National Geographic’s BAD

Some friends and I were speaking yesterday of dream jobs and of course the National Geographic came up!  It inspired me to do a google search and I found this amazing video which is an audio slide show of 30 years of photography from Bruce Dale – BAD.

The aeroplane pictures are just incredible!

Enjoy : )

I love the Canon 550D

I was recently given an amazing gift from my boyfriend…it was a Canon 550D DSLR camera.  As you can imagine I was really really happy and extremely grateful!  I’ve been talking about getting one but had not really got around to sorting it out financially or research wise!

Having a graphic design/photographer as a boyfriend though definitely has its benefits as he knows what he’s talking about!

I have had the camera for coming up to one month now and have been out and about with it every week so far.  Initially I was a bit thrown by it as there are so many options and after getting used to using a Panasonic AG-HVX200E at University it seems much more complex.  However, after playing around with the ISO, shutter speed, aperture and lens a little I’m starting to feel more comfortable on it and can really see the benefits of filming with a DSLR.

  • Number one it is SO light and easy to carry around!  I LOVE that!
  • Secondly the colours and quality of image are phenomenal – so much warmer than the Panasonic camera and easier to control and change.
  • Thirdly, the depth of field is amazing and is not something that can be achieved on the Panasonic.

I haven’t uploaded/edited all the footage I’ve taken so far but you can see a preview of some of its shots on the following links:

My first paid work…PCDT project

I’ve recently started work on a paid project outside of my MA in International Journalism.  It’s a great way to build up my portfolio and practice and develop my video and editing skills in the run up to my final documentary which I will be producing in the summer.

The project is to produce a set of six short films for the Penwith Community Development Trust (PCDT) who are based in Penzance, Cornwall.  The organisation is really interesting and works across a broad range of areas so the project will be great to get my teeth into a number of different themes.

I’m working on the project with a fellow course-mate Emma Fry.  As a team we work really well together as we have the same commitment to pushing our video and editing skills to the next level and we can swap roles freely to give us both the chance to do a bit of everything.  In terms of creativity it’s much better having two people together as you can bounce ideas off each other and take them further than when working alone.

Also accompanying us on film shoots, is another fellow course-mate Dan Holmes.  As a skilled photographer he is coming along to capture still images for the organisation.

As the project is quite large we have set up a dedicated blog spec to document the progress.  This will enable you to follow each stage of the work and see expanded interviews and read about the challenges and new things we learn.

Enjoy and please give us any feedback you have along the way!
